Este sínodo de três semanas de duração é uma das grandes prioridades do Papa.

O papa Bento XVI inaugurou neste domingo, com a celebração de uma missa solene na Praça São Pedro, o sínodo sobre a "nova evangelização", que reúne 262 arcebispos, bispos, superiores gerais de congregações e padres vindos de todo o mundo.
Na praça da Basílica de São Pedro, no Vaticano, o Papa lembrou que o Concílio Vaticano II, inaugurado há 50 anos, foi a "expressão mais universal" do dinamismo espiritual e pastoral do século XX. Seu aniversário será celebrado na quinta-feira, ocasião que marcará também o início do "Ano da Fé".
No começo da cerimônia, Bento XVI proclamou dois novos Doutores da Igreja. Ambos, teólogos admirados por suas ideias e atores da evangelização em sua época, já eram santos: o espanhol Juan de Ávila (1499-1569) e a alemã Hildegarda de Bingen (1098-1179).
Este sínodo de três semanas de duração é uma das grandes prioridades do Papa, pois tentará encontrar os meios para anunciar o Evangelho em países tradicionalmente cristãos, onde os fiéis se distanciam das igrejas.
