Joseph Ratzinger para Bento XVI. Desde o dia em que apareceu naquela sacada, a vida de um dos teólogos católicos mais respeitados do mundo não foi a mesma.
A eleição de Ratzinger sem dúvida nenhuma veio acalmar e tranquilizar o coração de muitos que ainda choravam a perda de João Paulo II. Mas nada melhor do que entrar na história do jovem alemão, que um dia recebeu um chamado, assim como tantos que abraçam a vida sacerdotal por amor à Igreja.
Joseph Ratinzger foi antes de tudo alguém que acompanhou de perto a hostilidade entre o regime nazista e a Igreja Católica. Um fato marcante para ele foi o dia em que viu o seu pároco sendo açoitado pelos soldados de Hitler pouco antes da Missa. Esta situação o levou a refletir e a redescobrir o valor da fé, além do claro testemunho de pertença a Igreja por parte de sua família, cujo o pai chegou a proteger sacerdotes que estavam sendo perseguidos pelo regime da época.
O jovem Ratzinger foi conquistado e se deixou envolver pelo atos litúrgicos vivenciados de forma simples no povoado em que morava. Inicia-se aí um desejo de entregar-se totalmente por uma causa maior.
Ratzinger conta, em sua autobiografia, que "quando era criança o meu caminho com a liturgia era um processo de contínuo crescimento. A inexaurível realidade da liturgia católica me acompanhou em todas as fases da minha vida, não posso deixar de falar dela sempre".
Na Páscoa de 1939, Ratzinger ingressa no Seminário Menor de Traunstein junto com seu irmão George Ratzinger para que pudesse iniciar sua vida eclesiástica. Por causa da Guerra, seu seminário foi transformado em hospital militar levando os irmãos Ratzinger a voltarem para casa. Dois anos depois, por imposição, o jovem Ratzinger com 16 anos teve que ser incorporado ao serviço militar, sendo dispensado somente em 1945, após a rendição alemã, exatamente no dia Sagrado Coração de Jesus.
Ele e o irmão George, portanto, retornaram ao Seminário e foram ordenados juntos em 29 de junho de 1951, na festa dos Santos Pedro e Paulo. Um ano depois, o padre Joseph Ratzinger iniciou sua brilhante carreira acadêmica que deu a ele oito títulos honorários de doutorado, passagem como docente pelas faculdades de Teologia mais respeitadas do mundo, e o domínio de 6 idiomas.
"No momento em que o arcebispo impôs as suas mãos sobre mim um pássaro se elevou diante do altar maior da catedral e entoou um pequeno canto alegre. Para mim foi como uma voz do alto que me dizia: Você está bem e está no caminho certo", destaca outro trecho da autobiografia de Ratzinger.
Por trás do brilhante teólogo, uma paixão pela música, um desejo de lutar pela causa da fé. O sacerdote, bispo e cardeal Ratzinger, não só se destacou pela inteligência, mas por ser um grande propagador dos valores absolutos. No dia em que foi eleito Papa, seu primeiro pronunciamento se resumiu a um pedido de oração ao mundo para que esta o sustentasse durante aquela nova etapa de sua vida.
"Queridos irmãos e irmãs:
Depois do grande Papa João Paulo II, os senhores cardeais elegeram a mim, um simples humilde trabalhador na vinha do Senhor. Consola-me o fato de que o Senhor sabe trabalhar e atuar com instrumentos insuficientes e, sobretudo, confio nas vossas orações."

Two years later, by imposition, the young Ratzinger 16 years had to be incorporated into military service and are released only in 1945 after the German surrender, exactly on the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
He and his brother George, therefore, returned to the seminary and were ordained together on June 29, 1951, feast of Saints Peter and Paul. A year later, Father Joseph Ratzinger began his brilliant academic career that gave him eight honorary doctorates, as a teacher passing by the faculties of Theology world's most respected, and mastery of six languages.

Behind the brilliant theologian, a passion for music, a desire to fight for their faith. In the apparition of Our Lady of Akita (Japan), the Mother of the Lord to Sister Agnes Katsuko Sasagawa:
"Pray much for the Pope, Bishops and Priests. Since your Baptism you have always prayed faithfully for them. ... Continue to pray very much.
Tell your superior all that passed today and obey him in everything he tells you. He asked you to pray fervently. "
